Rein chains help to extend the life of valuable rawhide reins as well as adding weight and feel to the reins. While strong, in the event of an accident or mishap, rein chains are made to break before the rawhide reins. Rein chains attach to the bit and reins.
Sometimes made with swivels, rein chains have S-hooks at each end to connect to the reins and bit.

Typically used to protect your reins from water, slobber and chewing.
